General Info

Students must try out to participate on the archer team. Students must return a signed permission form, conduct form, and emergency information form before attending any practice.

A team consists of 12-24 students with at least 4 opposite gender. The sport welcomes boys and girls equally. The following areas will be considered to determine participation on the team: try out score, sportsmanship, coachable.

It is free to try out and join the team. Cost for team members may include team apparel, tournament transportation and registration fees. Fundraising may be considered to support the cost to maintain and/or repair RMS equipment.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW RANGE RULES OR INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER PRACTICES WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM PRACTICE AND SUSPENSION OF SHOOTING PRIVILEGES.

STUDENTS MUST DEMONSTRATE THE WILLINGNESS AND ABILITY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND DISPLAY CHARACTER TRAITS PROMOTED BY THE SCHOOL.

EQUIPMENT

Equipment used is standardized and designed to fit almost every student. Per NASP® regulations, the only bow permitted is the Mathews Genesis® compound bow which has no let-off and is adjustable from 10-20 pounds in draw weight at any draw length. The only arrows used in NASP® are full-length, unmodified, aluminum Easton 1820®. Sights, release aids, and stabilizers are not used. Students are allowed to use finger slings, wrist slings, arm guards, and/or eye patches. Students must wear closed toed shoes during practice.

RMS can provide equipment for use during practices at RMS. It is not necessary to purchase personal equipment. All personal equipment must be approved by the coach before use. If a student uses their personal bow, they are responsible for string wax, replacement arrow rests, and any other necessary maintenance.

TEAM REQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION

One hour practices are scheduled each week. For the 2014-2015 team, MANDATORY team practices are Mondays and Thursdays 4:45pm-5:45pm* at the RMS gym. Once the team is established, excused absences will only be accepted if the coach is notified before a practice begins. If a student misses two unexcused** practices within two weeks, they will be put on probation. If they do not attend all four practices during the next probationary two weeks, they will be removed from the team.

Students must maintain a “C” or better in all classes. If a student receives a “D” or “F” in any class, they will be excused from practices until the grade shows improvement. If no improvement is reported after two weeks, the student will be removed from the team.

Team members will be required to wear a team shirt and closed toed shoes to all tournaments; additional dress code may apply and will be reviewed before the tournaments. The team traditionally participates in several tournaments per year. Participation is required unless notification is provided to the coach before registration. Once registration is open, parents may be responsible for fees even if their child cannot attend.
